The variegated form is considered exceptionally rare because stable variegation naturally appears in only a small fraction of Philodendron billietiae plants, which is why they are so valuable and prized by collectors. In its native rainforest habitat, the Philodendron billietiae climbs high into the canopy, and mature plants can develop leaves over three feet long when given vertical support.
